Training Report - Asari Pass 3

Dr.K and Tesseract participated in this training.

The travelled distance was 28.89km and the maximum velocity was 59.7km/h

The temperature was about minus 15 degrees Celsius on the Asari Pass. This is a training in the coldest condition in the history of this site. Tesseract wore four underclothes under the jersey and two pairs of inner gloves under the winter gloves. Dr.K wore less but he had more cutting-edge clothes than Tesseract. So he didn't need to wear much like Tesseract. Tesseract's clothes weighed 2.6kg in total but weren't enough against this cold.

Dr.K led the group in the climb. Tesseract stayed behind him up to the summit.

We passed the summit and descended up to the Sapporo Kokusai Skiing Resort and climbed the pass again from the other direction. But the wind direction wasn't favourable. We had to advance toward a strong head wind and it was freezing. So we wore face covers and passed the summit again.

As the sun rose, the temperature began to rise. But it was still minus 12 degrees Celsius when we began to descent. The downhill in the strong head wind would be very cold.
Dr.K on the Asari Pass

It was extremely cold in the downhill because of the low temperature and very strong head wind. The bottle froze, the eyebrows froze, the fog on the lens of goggles froze, the contact lenses froze, the hands became completely numb... Everything frozen. According to the meteorological calculator, the sensory temperature at that moment was minus 34 degrees Celsius! It's like the morning in Rikubetsu (the coldest city in Japan). Tesseract's bottle was broken because of the extreme cold. It's second time in this season he breaks bottles because of the cold (ref. Training Reports/Kenashi Pass 14).

By the way, do you know how to wear a windbreaker in winter? You have to take off your gloves and hold them with your mouth so that the hands pass the sleeves. Because winter gloves are too big to pass the sleeves.

After this state, you use your mouth to hold the other sleeve and put back the glove. Then you take off the other glove and hold it with your mouth.

As usual Tesseract who is descent freak won the descent with a huge gap.
